#16 - No Place But Here

Hey folks, here's a work in progress -- i.e., something I'm in the middle of right now. I can't decide to go in the direction of poem or song, though it seems to be heading songward.  While writing this over the weekend, I took some video, too.  Somehow my mind is forming words and video before it's writing music -- an odd situation for me.   The cover photo is from the videos.  We'll see what becomes of it, soon!

No Place But Here

I'm a writer, a touring troubadour
I'm a flyer, New York to Bangalore

I'm a priestess in the mists of Avalon
I'm an artist, turning pages I have drawn

But now I can see, it is completely clear,
I am no one but me, and I am no place but here.

I'm a monster with no limits to my greed,
I'm a beggar, it's forgiveness that I seek,

I'm a herder, sidling up from the behind,
I'm a worker, digging holes to Palestine

But now I can see, it is completely clear,
I am no one but me, and I am no place but here.

I am a singer, in a crowded concert hall,
I am a mother, and I have given them my all

I am a builder, pine cone castles rise above,
I am a wrecker, working hard to test your love

But now I can see, it is completely clear,
I am no one but me, and I am no place but here.

I am a teacher, in a vast and ignorant land,
I am a preacher, at the door to shake your hand

I am a savior, pull you through the thickest veil,
I am a failure, my plans don't always go so well

But now I can see, it is completely clear,
I am no one but me, and I am no place but here.

  • Oh Rita! Those words ring as true, meaningful and timeless as "Come Sunrise" to me. Particularly now, but most folks will come to that realization at some time in their lives...no one but me...no place but here. Bring it musically, please!

  • Just read those words a second time, more slowly. You must layer your best melodiousness upon these words. It is necessary. Jill

Hey Jill! I'm so glad you like these words. Yeah, I'm working them into a song of sorts, as we speak. Also trying to sort out how I want to marry it with the little videos I took last weekend, and a sound recording here at my desk. And of course how to manipulate iMovie to do what I want. Why is it that I must think about everything at once. ? ha ha ha! Thank you for your kind encouragement!!

Gorgeous. The masks we wear, the folks we are. Looking forward to the evolution of this splendid piece.

Thank you Katja. By the way I've always loved the name Katja. It's solid, succinct, and lovely.
