#7 - Free Stuff

New song, just "finished" today. Ya never know, though.

Free Stuff

Stack of bibles, kids’ snow boots,
Upright piano, bent pool cue
Pick-up tires, adult diapers,
A GE electric dryer,
Pink chair and a plaid sofa,
A basket shaped like Oklahoma,
I just can’t pass up free stuff.

Baby bouncer, fluorescent fixtures,
Kitchen counter, old family pictures,
Open boxes of Prilosec and
A Pablo Sandoval bobblehead,
Big sturdy trampoline frame,
A 55 gallon reptile tank,
I just can’t pass up free stuff.

So much stuff that you can get for free,
And the best don’t belong to you or to me.

A daddy beaming o’er his daughter,
A shining stream of rushing water,
Smell of cut green grass in June,
And an old man whistling a broadway tune,
Walking with your hand in mine,
The whole goddamn world for us to find,
I just can’t pass up free stuff.

I'm the kind of person who gets really excited about free stuff. If I have some kind of project, or not, I often check the Craigslist free section, and I'm an avid member of Freecycle.  The big bonuses are stuff people just leave by their house with a "free stuff" sign.

So I figured, why don't I write a song about free stuff?  A month or two ago I wrote down most of what I saw listed that day, from the online sources above. You'll see some of those lists below, as well as some types of free stuff not listed on the internet, and my usual lists of rhymes, thoughts, ideas, which finally, morphed into Free Stuff.  I find it mildly hokey, but still acceptable and fun.

It’s fun and becomes more than just fun in the last verse when you get to stuff we can all share.

Beautifully done - that shift from the material to the experiential.
