#25 - Doodling?

I believe this is called doodling -- though I usually associate doodling with doing something else, like listening or talking, while one doodles.  In my case, I'm not doing anything else at all.  Earlier I mentioned physical work, digging holes, etc.. as activities that help me deal with anxiety. Well, sometimes doodling does, too.  These ones, from this week, have words. I'm trying not to judge these words, I just let them pop into my head while drawing, and write them before I think too much.
I ordered myself some fancy Japanese watercolor paints, they arrive next week. I know nothing about watercolor, or other fine types of painting, but am excited to experiment. I like watercolors because the color seems to carry its own, inherent light. I like how it makes my eyes feel, like looking at a lovely sky, or a sparkling river. So, I look forward to playing with the new paints.  Felt pens have their limitations.

I think that you will enjoy very much the watercolors. I have a friend in New Zealand who took up watercolors in the past year or two (I hadn't known). He is like some kind of religious zealot now, spends hours almost every day, says that there is a quality to them that is so alive - "They seem paint themselves" is how he puts it. I like those doodles a lot: thought fragment combinations. With respect to the last, it also raises the question "What color is water" (because it so so often takes on the color the sky, reflects, refracts and is different in every setting: mountain stream to ocean). And "flyby atom" - cloud chamber spinnings... what was that book by Fritjok Capra - The Tao of Physics".

Rita, I hope you enjoy the watercolors. They are a wonderful medium, but can be a little frustrating as well. I love them. Feel free to email or call if you want some tips and tricks or suggestions for websites that are good for getting started. As for doodling - you might want to check out a FB page called "Roodoodles" - Michael Haun is the artist, he, like you, is a story teller, although not a songwriter. He did 100 days of video doodling and water color paint-alongs that are fun to watch and to listen too. Good way to get started. the videos are delightful, just pick one to watch if you are interested..

Love doodles. Funny story. When my sister started dating a tattoo artist my mom said I dont want him “doodling on my daughter”. So funny. They are married and now my mom even has a very small tattoo and everyone is happy with doodling
